Summer Reading

I’m more of a Summer leisure reader and a Winter designerly reader and so this great list of design books for in-house designers from the AIGA are now on my Winter hibernation list. Not all of them, of course, but I am a big fan of Chip and Dan Heath and Switch is either already on my Amazon wishlist or in my Winter book pile gathering dust on the tippy top of one of my bookshelves. I need to find that step ladder… http://www.aiga.org/inspirational-and-informative--an-in-house-summer-reading-list/

Hodags, Hodags, Everywhere

There are hodags all over the town of Rhinelander, WI. The following three hodags are from the awesome Hodags on Parade project.

This creepy cool beaded hodag masterpieces were in the Fun Factory booth at Rhinelander's annual Art in the Park. Perhaps you can find them in the store?

All of the hodags below can be found at the Pioneer Park Historical Complex (formerly the Logging Museum) in Rhinelander. This is the largest collection of hodags on view for the public.

All of them except this one, this is the first hodag I ever created, I created it for a class in college. I donated it to the Museum quite a few years ago and it has since disappeared. It's not fabulous, I'll give you that, but it's sad none the less.

Hodag Books on iTunes

My two hodag books for children, Tales From The Trees and A Monster Misunderstanding as well as my non-hodag children's book, Goodnight Ranger are now all available on iTunes as iBooks!

I'm very excited about this as this is the first time they are available as full screen illustrations for smart tablets. The illustrations really make the stories and so I recommend the iBooks over the eBooks I offer on my site.

Tales is a little less expensive than the others because it's a shorter story while A Monster Misunderstanding is a far longer and more suspenseful read. Not to be left out, Goodnight Ranger is absolutely ridiculous, ridiculous costs an extra dollar ;)

What next? CANNONBALL!!!!! It's hot out there.

ALSO, codes for free books are available for reviews, just drop me a line.

Scooby Doo and a Hodag too

It's true, there has been a hodag sighting on Scooby Doo, check it out right here. I'm not sure if this is a fully sanctioned link so someone please drop me a line if it goes down.

This is a photo still from the episode Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated, Season 2, Episode 5 (Part 1) - Hodag of Horror

I Love Summer

Swimming dogs, hundreds of butterflies in the fields, and a spectrum of color and texture at your feet. Summer is the best.

Fringe & Fettle Pieces

These are two ceramic pieces I picked up a couple of weekends ago from Joanna Buyert at a festival in Hayward, WI. This Minneapolis based artist has really beautiful work and while I didn't know the little colander was created for berries, that's actually what I bought for. I had such an amazing crop of raspberries this year in the backyard I couldn't help but style these shots. Check out her shop, Fringe & Fettle, on Etsy.

Lakes & Tornadoes - Happy Fourth!

Growing up my cousins and I spent a lot of time at my grandparents lake cottage just down the road. I'm pretty sure my siblings must have been there too but I don't actually remember them that well, we all had a crew of cousins our own age and thus would go off in our little groups along the long shoreline. A few times during the Summer my grandparents would throw big parties at the lake and the Fourth was second only to their corn roast. I have a huge family and my grandparents had scads of friends that would all gather down at the lake for a day filled with fun and inevitably a tornado.

Happy Fourth of July! Go and make some memories!
